Season Opener: Mill City Farmers Market

Saturday, May 14, 8 am – 1 pm

Located on Chicago Avenue between Second St. S. and W. River Parkway

This week’s 10:30 am Cooking Demo will feature new Market Chef Beth Jones cooking fresh asparagus, seasonal mushrooms and spring greens. Learn how to cook these local vegetables and make a simple wine sauce for pasta at the free 30-minute cooking class located in the train shed patio. Kids can enjoy the Mini Farm petting zoo from MNHS historic Oliver H. Kelley Farm and get Power of Produce (PoP) veggie samples in the Info Booth. From 11 am to 1 pm, get up and dance or tap your boots! MCFM happily welcomes back Miss Becky & Michael Keyes, who will be playing country Americana tunes in the music tent near the Guthrie Steps. The Community Booths will feature the Hennepin County Master Gardeners, Straw Bale Gardens with Joel Karsten and Organics Recycling with the City of Minneapolis. Learn how to grow tomatoes that won’t split or what that bug is in your yard!

Bring your gardening questions to the Master Gardener Volunteers. See a demonstration of this revolutionary above-ground growing technique perfect for urban dwellers and those with larger lots alike! Joel will be available for questions all day at the top of the market near the Guthrie and also have copies of his book Straw Bale Gardens. Trying to get one of those green composting bins? Need help understanding what goes inside your compost? Or simply interested in reducing waste at your home or business? The City of Minneapolis will be stationed inside the train shed near the Mill City Cooks Kitchen answering all your questions and signing residents up for organics recycling. The Art Market will feature : Annika Kaplan Jewelry, Fresh Mud Pottery, House of Talents, Oh Dier, ArtAndes and Sassy Knitwear.
